THE major team event of the year at Cirencester Golf Club is the invitational Men’s Open and this year it was won by a quartet from Thornbury.

The Open is a four-man stableford competition played off ¾ handicap with three scores to count on each hole.

In hot and humid conditions, it was the Rhino's from Thornbury – David Lucas, Rod Butler, Rob Lawrence and John Stubbs – who were triumphant on 112 points.

They finished just two ahead of Stone’s Boys (110pts), a home team consisting of past captains Pete Stone and Mark Priest, future captain Nick Brown and their guest Stuart Whitman.

In third place on countback were ‘Wild West’ from Chipping Sodbury, who consisted of Malcolm West, Craig Mayoh, Michael Callaghan and Adam Plummer.
