Adam Rouse made a big impression at Gloucestershire

ADAM Rouse has left Gloucestershire after his trial period came to an end.

The 22-year-old wicketkeeper impressed during his five-week stint with the County, particularly when scoring a match-winning 35 not out against Kent in the NatWest T20 Blast competition on his home debut, but the club were unable to offer him a longer stay.

Rouse was brought in with both Cameron Herring and Gareth Roderick ruled out of action but the latter has now recovered from a broken finger and returned to the side for their 35-run win over Hampshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup at Bristol on Thursday.

Gloucestershire director of cricket John Bracewell said: “It was good to have Gareth Roderick back behind the stumps. Adam Rouse has now left us, having made an excellent impression.

“He will be a decent first class cricketer for the county who sign him. We have three very good wicketkeepers and do not have the budget to carry any more.”

Will Tavare made his one-day debut against Hampshire and showed he can not only reproduce his red-ball form that has seen him become the club’s leading scorer in first class cricket this season by weighing in with big runs, but that he can also score quickly.

His 77 came off just 78 balls, while Benny Howell’s unbeaten 43 guided Gloucestershire towards their total of 233 all out.

Hampshire appeared well on course to reach their target on 150-3 in the 35th over but suddenly imploded, losing their last seven wickets, three of which were run outs, for just 48 runs with Jack Taylor taking a career-best 4-38.
