Tytherington Rocks 1 Hook Norton 3

DEFENDING champions Tytherington Rocks kicked off their 11th season in the Hellenic League under new manager Lukasz Cabaj and a completely new-look squad who had only came together in the last four weeks.

Hook Norton started well and within four minutes had taken the lead when, from a corner on the left to beyond the far post, Dan Watkin rose above the Rocks defenders to head high into the goal.

On 22 minutes Hook went further in front when Ben Polk beat the defence to fire a low hard shot past Rocks keeper Christopher Manns to put them two up.

In the 35th minute the Rocks got a goal back when Daniel Marshall made an excellent run down the left, beating two players with his speed, and crossed low into the box, where Danny Poole turned the ball into his own net when trying to clear.

Just on half-time, Hook regained their two-goal difference when a free kick was headed into the net by Sam Grant to complete the scoring for the match.

The second half was a much more even affair, with Rocks doing most of the attacking until late in the game when Hook gave the defence a few scary moments.

Considering this was the first full game that the squad had played, there were several encouraging pluses to take away, and manager Cabaj is waiting clearance for three other first team players to come through, which will strength the squad.

Rocks are away to Purton on Saturday, 3pm.
