ALMONDSBURY UWE have made a flying start to the new season in the Western League First Division.

They followed up their 3-2 win at Cheddar on the opening day by beating Ashton and Backwell 4-0 on Tuesday night with goals from Nick Rugman, Simon McElroy and Steve Fitzpatrick (2).

In the Premier Division, Hallen suffered a disappointing 5-2 defeat in their first home game of the season against Bradford Town on Tuesday.

The visitors went 2-0 up inside 22 minutes before Tom Collett pulled a goal back from the penalty spot just after the half-hour mark.

Bradford regained their two-goal advantage on 40 minutes before Matt Tovey reduced the deficit again two minutes later.

The visitors added two more goals in the second half to leave Hallen still searching for their first win after drawing their opening game 1-1 at Sherborne Town on Saturday.
