Hellenic League Division One West

Purton 2 Tytherington Rocks 1

A MUCH-improved performance from Tytherington Rocks could not prevent them from slipping to their second successive defeat at the start of the new season.

The visitors dominated the first half as both James Brock and Simone Gromek had great efforts beaten out or just flying by the post.

Rocks created many chances but the shooting power was missing, however considering this was only their second game since getting together it was another fine performance that should have at least ensured a point.

In the second half Purton came more into the game and in the 48th minute scored after a defensive error allowed Lee Toomey to go through and beat keeper Chris Manns.

On a counter-attack Rocks were awarded a penalty on 60 minutes when striker Ashley McDowell was brought down, however Abdebour Amaraoui hit the post and so a chance to get on equal terms was gone.

Purton went further in front from a free kick wide on the left which was met with a glancing header by Marcus Hall after 68 minutes.

Ashley McDowell put the Rocks back in the game in the 73rd minute when going through on the left to the edge of the six-yard box before driving the ball hard and high inside the near post, giving home keeper Justin Yates no chance.

Tytherington manager Lukasz Cabaj is hoping that a couple more players will be available in the very near future which should strengthen his squad and give him more options.

Rocks are at home to Fairford Town on Saturday, 3pm.
