THORNBURY Running Club managed a good turnout for the inaugural Severn Bridge Half Marathon on Sunday.

Running across the Severn Bridge is something enjoyed by members of Thornbury Running Club, during mob matches against Chepstow Harriers but closure of the carriageway to traffic gave all a new experience.

First to finish for the club was Paul Clark, coming 12th in the MV40 category and 67th overall in 1:28:21, with Rob Cowlard a bit over a minute behind, 86th and 14th MV40 in 1:29:29.

For the ladies, Ros Rowland completed the course in 1:44:14, eighth in the FV50 category with Selina Slater pleased to beat the two-hour mark in 1:56:49.

Other club finishers were Rob Hopkins (1:31:27), Alistair Whiteway (1:35:02), Steve Dimond (1:44:33), Chris Foley (1:51:23), Arthur Renshaw (1:55:20), Sonya Bryson (2:04:32) and Rebecca Dunsford (2:42:52).

A few club members still managed to fit in a parkrun on Saturday with Nicola Davies achieving a new parkrun personal best of 22:12 at Little Stoke, running with husband Andi Davies, who is recovering from injury.

Although not a Thornbury runner, their son Luke's time of 17:01 saw him second across the line – the 13-yr-old was almost half a minute in front of his next rival. Daniel Harding took another 10 seconds from his best time, completing the 5k in 19:26 with Kevin Arnold recording a time of 21:12.

Elsewhere Andrew Darton visited the Plymvalley parkrun, where he ran 19:19, slower than his best but on a far more challenging course with only a short tarmac section and unlike Little Stoke, some appreciable hills.

There are only a few weeks before the Oldbury Power Station 10-mile road race on September 14.

This open race hosted by Thornbury is on a fast, flat, figure-of-eight course starting and finishing at the Power Station.
