Tytherington Rocks 1 Longlevens 7

A TOP versus bottom contest can often produce surprises but that was certainly not the case on Saturday when Tytherington were well beaten by Longlevens.

Shaun O'Connor was the most threatening of the Longlevens forwards and after 24 minutes he found fellow striker Bradley Stroud-Drinkwater unmarked in the Rocks penalty area to duly open the scoring for the visitors.

A threatening free kick by Szymon Gromek sailed above the bar and despite a good spell by the home team, the visitors increased their lead when Brad Martin hammered in goal number two shortly before half-time.

It took 12 minutes for the visitors to increase their lead in the second half.

As the rain began to fall, Ryan Hughes netted number three.

The home side struggled to find a link between defence and attack, allowing O'Connor to claim his second and Longlevens' fourth on 62 minutes.

Hughes hit his second on 69 minutes and Adam Hemmings made it 6-0 a minute later.

Rocks continued to battle, undaunted by the scoreline, and from a right wing cross by Jim Brock, Safian Skupinski volleyed home for their solitary but nevertheless classy goal.

Longlevens had unfinished business and the rout was completed with the seventh goal in the 77th minute.

Despite the 7-1 defeat, Rocks keeper Chris Manns gave a creditable performance to the very end, pulling off a great diving save in the last minute.

The defeat leaves Tytherington anchored at the foot of the table with a crucial home game against Shortwood Utd Reserves this Saturday, 3pm.
