GFA Challenge Trophy First Round
Almondsbury UWE 2 Slimbridge 2 (Slimbridge win 3-0 on penalties)
SLIMBRIDGE progressed to the second round of the GFA Challenge Trophy after being given a scare by lower league opponents Almondsbury UWE on Tuesday evening.
Leading by a first half Adam Mace strike, it looked as if the Swans were going to get dumped out of the competition when they conceded goals in the 80th and 86th minute from Ricky Chandler and Simon McElroy respectively.
However, with a minute remaining, Sean Lawson notched the equaliser to send the game to penalties.
Dave Evans saved all three of the Almondsbury penalties and successful conversions by Mace, Ben Tunnicliff and Lawson sent the visitors through to a home tie with Hallen.
Slimbrudge: Evans, Turl, Freeman, Rich Thwaite, Tunnicliff, Hoyle, Turner, Parrott, (Twyman 57 (Cole 60)) Lawson, Martin, Mace.
Star man: Nathan Freeman.
