THORNBURY Golf Club held their Seniors Mixed Pairs Open recently, with 92 entrants and visitors from over 20 different clubs.
Unlike last year when the weather was atrocious, the competition was played in ideal conditions.
This was reflected in the high standard of scoring.
Playing off three and four handicaps in a Better Ball format, the winning pair were Glyn Williams and Bernadette Sheppard from Peterstone Lakes Golf Club with 44 stableford points, just edging out Paul Stickler and Cheryl Stickler from St Pierre on countback.
Captain Lindsey Henniker-Heaton thanked all the members who helped in setting up and running the competition and the ground staff for preparing the course in such great condition.
The Seniors team have enjoyed a more successful season than in 2013 and recent results have included a narrow defeat at Shirehampton, an honourable draw at Filton and a 5-2 win at home against a strong Bristol and Clifton side.
