GFA County Cup (Junior) First Round

Stroud United 1 Charfield 7

CHARFIELD continued where they left off last season with another County Cup win, their seventh consecutive success with Joel Stoneman getting his first hat-trick for the club.

With early chances for Charfield falling to Simon Miles, Nick Bishop and Joel Stoneman, it was Stoneman who scored after 11 minutes after a delicate flick from Bishop.

However, on the half-hour Stroud equalised with a header after some slack defending.

Minutes later a fast breakaway by Phil Miles found Simon Miles, who cut in from the left to score in the corner.

Ten minutes later Charfield went further ahead with a well taken goal by Stoneman, who had been put through by Nathan Vines.

Charfield put the game beyond reach with Stoneman's third after a Phil Miles shot ricocheted into his path.

Further goals came from Lewis Bendell with a 45-yard stunning left foot blast, a Simon Miles penalty after Paul Lyon was felled in the box and finally Vines heading over the line from under the crossbar.

SDFL Charity Cup (Section D) First Round

Quedgeley Wanderers 3rds 1 Charfield Reserves 3

CHARFIELD Reserves bounced after last week's cup defeat with an excellent win against a side playing in a higher division.

Adam Spiers enjoyed all the plaudits with an exceptional hat-trick after scoring five goals in a game only two weeks earlier.

His first came from a free kick, the second from the edge of the box after Jack Jones' corner found Spiers, who smashed the ball home from over his head, and the third a tap-in after being put through by Andy Brett.
