Premier Division One

Lebeq United 0 Tytherington Rocks Reserves 5

TYTHERINGTON made it back-to-back wins in all competitions with a resounding victory at Lebeq.

The Rocks started the brightest and took a deserved lead midway through the first half after Karl Edwards guided in an exquisite Stephen Thompson pass with his head.

Moments later Rocks made it 2-0 after Matt Siddon smashed in a free kick from 30 yards with both power and precision.

The pressure didn't let up and 10 minutes before the break Edwards got his second and Rocks' third after he powerfully ran on and finished a long clearance from Mark Greenland with coolness and composure.

At the break Lebeq used all of three of their substitutes and came out brighter in search of a way back into the game.

Rocks rode this pressure and made it 4-0 shortly as Tom Brennan beat several players on the right hand side of the pitch before cutting the ball back to Dave Jones, who got his second in two games with a deflected shot.

There was still time for Lebeq to miss a penalty and for Rocks to make it 5-0. Substitutes Jack Newman and Kieran Carter combined with the latter creating room for himself to dribble a shot in at the near post.

This was an all-round excellent day for Rocks, who picked up their first three points of the season.

On Saturday, Rocks travel to Avonmouth for the first round of the Alf Bosley Cup and will be looking for revenge following their awful performance there in the league just three weeks ago.

GFA Challenge Trophy Round One

Shortwood United 1 Tytherington Rocks 0

WITH Tytherington Rocks still in the process of rebuilding, this GFA Challenge Trophy cup match away to Shortwood was always going to be a close run affair.

However, Shortwood gained revenge for their recent league defeat away to the Rocks by scoring the only goal of the game.

This was a fairly evenly matched game with both teams creating half chances without converting them but the Rocks were indebted to keeper Chris Manns for keeping the score level at half-time.

Within five minutes of the restart Shortwood took the lead when, from a hotly disputed corner, the ball eventually reached Adam Philp, who from close in beat keeper Manns to roll it over the line.

Rocks came back strongly after this setback and hit the crossbar when Luke Patten, making his full debut for the club, shot from the edge of the box.

Despite making changes and bringing on forward Justin Pritchard, who caused Shortwood's defence problems, Tytherington could not get the equaliser, and the home side could have gone further ahead but for two outstanding saves from keeper Manns in the last few minutes.

Once again Rocks put in a solid performance without having the cutting edge required to finish off some good approach play, with good contributions from Abdenour Amraoul, John Timlin, Jerome Ingram and outstanding keeping from Manns.

Rocks play at home to Cirencester Town Development on Saturday, 3pm and are then away to Lydney Town in the Floodlight Cup next Wednesday, 7.30pm.
