GRFU Reserve Leagues Bristol & District Two

Thornbury 3rds 33 Cotham Park 2nds 20

THORNBURY Thirds enjoyed a fine home win over Cotham Park, securing maximum points with five fine tries.

In a mixture of youth and experience, the squad was strengthened by the addition of new players in Craig Bright and Rob Cannings, together with Development XV players Matt Jacobs and Stuart McWhinnie, plus the return of Ian Porch, Nick Tyrell and Rich Tyrell.

The side also included young prop Jack Summerfield.

Matt Jacobs scored two tries, while Chas Turner and Stuart McWhinnie also touched down.

The ageless Jon Pullin scored the fifth and converted four.

In a good all-round team effort, there were several performances worthy of comment, notably those of Jacobs, McWhinnie and Summerfield.

Mark Burgess kindly volunteered to prop for Cotham Park rather than starting a game with unopposed scrummages

* Thornbury Seconds lost 54-34 to Matson Seconds in a Premier Division game, which featured three interception tries scored by the Gloucester club.

Thornbury Development's game with Bream was abandoned midway through the second half when a Bream player suffered a serious injury.

Bream were leading 12-5 at the time.

This weekend Thornbury Seconds and Thirds are, respectively, at Drybrook and Whitehall in the GRFU Reserve Leagues, both games kicking off at 2.30pm.

On Sunday, the Development XV are away at Stroud with a 1pm kick-off.
