Tytherington Rocks 1 Clanfield 1

WITH both teams in urgent need of points, a low-scoring draw was a predictable result when Tytherington Rocks met Clanfield at the Hardwicke Field on Saturday.

Playing into the sun and wind, Rocks controlled the first five minutes of the game, playing with crisp passing and control.

From their first real opening, Justin Pritchard sliced past the right hand post.

On seven minutes, taking advantage of the blustery conditions in their favour, the Clanfield keeper launched a long goal kick forward which deceived the home defence and allowed Jamie Fleming to open the scoring with a neat header over stranded Rocks keeper Chris Manns.

The game settled down with neither side creating chances until the 22nd minute when a cross from Jim Brock brushed the head of the classy Pritchard, only to drift wide of the right hand post.

Szymon Gromek was working as hard as usual in midfield as play drifted from end to end.

Tytherington drew level in the second half when Abdenour Amraoui netted a sharp drive through a crowded Clanfield penalty area.

Spurred on by the goal, Rocks increased the tempo of their game.

However, tempers became frayed on both sides and, from one confrontation, Fleming and Manns received yellow cards.

Both sides had opportunities to take the lead.

Jim Brock's hard work went unrewarded, whilst at the other end a point-blank drive hit the Rocks woodwork.

Tytherington Rocks' next game, another six-pointer, is at home to Letcombe on Saturday, 3pm.
