GFA Intermediate Cup Round Two

Thornbury Baptist Church 3 Tebby 2

WITH Thornbury Baptists winning the GFA Minor Cup last season it was time for the step up to the GFA Intermediate Cup.

Up against Downs Division Two team Tebby, it was a great chance for the Baps to prove themselves against strong opposition.

The Baps came flying out the starting blocks with three first half goals.

The first was a perfectly weighted pass by Sam Nichols through to Ash Tuck, who finished well into the corner.

With confidence at high, the Baps pushed for a second and it wasn’t long before John Cordle put Steve Nash through on goal. Despite being closely marked, Nash managed to get good contact with his weaker foot, hitting it in off the bar.

Minutes later a well worked one-two between James Hancox and Steve Clare saw the latter through with only the keeper to beat.

A well-timed chip with his first touch left the keeper helpless and the Baps looking strong 3-0 up at half-time.

Tebby came back strong in the second half, scoring two goals from set pieces.

However, a very determined last 20 minutes saw the Baps keep the lead and move onto the next round in the cup.
