Tytherington Rocks 1 Letcombe 0

A SINGLE goal proved enough to secure three precious points for Tytherington Rocks against Letcombe in one of the few local games unaffected by the weather.

A minute silence was held prior to the start to commemorate Remembrance weekend and also in memory of Charlie Green, a long-serving stalwart of the club who passed away recently.

Despite the torrential pre-match rain, the pitch was in excellent condition and this allowed both teams to play attacking football from the start.

Chances fell to both teams within the first 10 minutes with Matt Siddon, Joe Walters and Jim Brock all registering goal attempts with no reward.

Letcombe too had a couple of speculative attempts on goal, but the new-look Rocks, under the management duo of Justin Pritchard and Richard Lee, began to dominate play with some crisp possession football.

For all the home team's endeavour and despite a Joe Walters shot grazing the visitors' bar on 37 minutes, there were few serious attempts on goal for either team before the half-time whistle.

The home team continued their pressure after the break, but Rocks keeper Chris Manns made a save from point-blank range to keep the scores level.

Jim Brock's decisive running provided several teasing crosses into the Letcombe penalty area but his pace and speed of delivery went unrewarded.

Luke Garbacz collected a yellow card for a rash challenge but soon redeemed himself when his clever through ball into the penalty area was slotted home by Siddon past the Letcombe keeper.

Letcombe pressed hard for an equaliser but Manns displayed his usual safe pair of hands.

The last challenge of the game brought Tytherington keeper Manns into action again, the resulting collision with a Letcombe forward leaving the home keeper with a damaged collarbone.

Tytherington's next home game is on Saturday, November 29 against Purton.
