West Women's Hockey League

Berkeley Division Two

Thornbury 2nds 0 Dursley Ladies 1

DURSLEY’S first win of the season was limited to a single goal due to an excellent display by Thornbury keeper Hannah Kemp and some poor finishing.

The start was delayed for 30 minutes due to torrential rain flooding the pitch.

When the action got underway Dursley were soon camped in the home team’s half, forcing numerous short corners and clearances by Kemp.

After half an hour, from one of these corners Pippa Hickey scored with a cracking shot from the edge of the area.

Good defending by Emily Campbell, Linzi Moulder and Stacey Smith meant Dursley keeper Angie Mason did not have a shot to save in the first half.

After the break, Dursley continued to dominate with Hickey and Lisa Balfour making strong runs down the right.

Leanne Smith created chances but poor finishing kept the score intact.

For Thornbury Tanya Roberts and Amy Bowman showed some nice touches but found it difficult to create passing movements until late in the match.

Lorna Thornton and Rachel Underwood strove purposefully up front but chances were few and far between.

Laura Upham and Harriet Ryan were hard workers in midfield and Sarah Newman, Angela Greenslade, Jean Lester and Sarah Brearley were sound in defence.

The home side did press a little towards the end but Dursley kept them out to record a deserved victory.

Thornbury visit Pucklechurch on Saturday in search of three points.
