FORMER Thornbury Rugby Club ace Billy Vunipola has been shortlisted for the European Player of the Year following his superb performances for Saracens in this season’s European Champions Cup.
Number eight Vunipola, who went to Castle School in Thornbury, starred for Mark McCall's side throughout the pool stages and was named man of the match following his side's 33-10 demolition of Munster in round five.
He joins Toulon flanker Steffon Armitage, Clermont full back Nick Abendanon and his clubmate Fritz Lee plus Leinster’s Jamie Heaslip on the shortlist.
