Old Down 2ndsXI v Coalpit Heath
AN inauspicious start witnessed the demise of Old Down’s first three batsmen, but Chris Rovery (91) took a positive stance in amassing nine fours and four sixes.
Old Down regrouped with Greg Welsher (48) also hitting six fours and a six.
The rest of the order faltered somewhat, except from a late charge from 21st birthday boy Chris Featherstone (28) and young number 10 Josh Little (16) who helped Old Down to a respectable 229 all out.
S. Pepler (5-71) and A. Edwards (3-31) were Heath’s wicket takers.
A vigorous start from Coalpit Heath’s batsmen saw them reach 53 from only three overs, which gave them a great platform to their innings.
A. Edwards went on to get 60, while his opening partner S. Williams got 24. J. Billington (48) and A. Neal (28) took their side close, but S. Pepler (19) and A. Long(11) finished the action, as Coalpit Heath went on to a wining total of 233.
Aaron Holman’s fielding, well supported by the eager young Harvey Maggs, was a feature of Old Down’s performance, in particular Holman’s astonishing one-handed, running, leaping boundary edge catch that left everyone breathless.
However, there were few other highlights for Old Down in the field, though Welsher’s 0-29 from 10 overs was exemplary.
