Bridgwater Seconds 155-1 beat Thornbury Seconds by nine wickets

THORNBURY Seconds, on the back of a good display at Bath the week before, won the toss on a green wicket and chose to bat.
Marcus Wormwell and Edd Webb got off to a very watchful start with the ball doing strange things in the air and on the pitch, they managed to see off the opening bowlers, with the score on 48-0 off 12 overs.
The first change bowlers came on and the two batsmen tried to pick up the run-rate. But they were halted by a mix up as Wormwell was run out for 18.
This brought to the crease Paul Holder, who was soon caught chasing a full toss off the spinner.
The in-form James Tunnicliffe was next in with his side in a bit of trouble.
A good partnership featured some explosive hitting from Tunnicliffe with some large sixes helping Thornbury up the run-rate, before the visitors lost some quick wickets.
Tunnicliffe (18) was strangely stumped  and Edd soon followed after smashing a ball straight to mid-wicket for a respectable 41.
This left Thornbury in trouble. A few more quick wickets fell as Josh Morris (5), Alex Broomsgrove (0) and John Martin (10) walked back to the pavilion.
Alex Allen came to the crease, quickly finding out what Bridgwater were capable of and getting hit in the helmet from a good bouncer.
This did not faze the young lad as the over after, he smashed the spinner around the ground for 18 with a couple of fours and a six.
He soon departed after going for another big hit and was caught on the boundary for 22.
Captain Greg Mallitte played two lovely trademark cover drives and managed to get the Thornbury total up to 158 all out, with six dismissals from catches.
This would be a very tough total to defend against a Bridgwater team sitting top team in the league.
Thornbury soon found out how hard this total would be to defend as the Bridgwater openers smashed the ball to all parts.
With 88 on the board after ten overs, Liam Kitch (88) soon reached 50 and then spooned a Tunnicliffe full toss straight to Martin.
The Thornbury bowling figures did not look healthy at all and the game was soon finished with Bridgwater reaching the target in 17 overs beating Thornbury by nine wickets on a day to forget.
