West of England Premier League
Premier One 2nd XI
Swindon 2nds 185-8 beat Thornbury 2nds 183-7 by two wickets

THORNBURY seconds travelled to Swindon for a winner-takes-all match at the bottom of the table.
Winning the toss, Greg Mallitte took no hesitation in batting first on what looked a good wicket.
Ed Webb and Harry Hawkins opened up and with recent batting calamities fresh in the memory began cautiously.
Hawkins fell in the sixth over playing on to a wide delivery for two, bringing David Hammond to the crease.
The pair continued a patient approach before Hammond began to find his touch with some positive stokeplay around the ground.
Webb fell with the score on 40 for 15 and Colin Blick joined Hammond.
Both played well against a ball that was still moving in the air with assistance in the wicket.
Hammond was next to fall for 41, Blick followed soon after for 29 leaving Thornbury faltering on 91-3 off 28 overs.
Alex Broomsgrove then provided the much-needed impetus, smashing 41 off 31 balls.
This enabled the lower order to play with freedom as first Jordan Hicks, on debut, hit 14 off 10 balls and Alex Allen scored ten not out as Thornbury posted a competitive 183-7 from their 45 overs.
In reply, the bowlers immediately hit the right areas as Graham McWhinnie took two early wickets and was well-supported by Hicks with a further wicket, reduced Swindon to 23-3 off eight overs.
Mcwhinnie bowled his full allocation straight through and finished with excellent figures of 4-24.
The spin of Allen and Mallitte continued the good work with both picking up wickets as Swindon were on the ropes at 66-7.
With Chevis batting at nine, he began to grind out some runs and slowly reduced the target.
Although they lost a further wicket, Mallitte was faced with part-time bowlers Blick and Harry Hawkins who  bowled the remaining nine overs between them.
Chevis, now in full stride, took a particular liking to the medium pace of Hawkins, hitting one over for 18.
Unable to stem the flow, Chevis hit the winning runs in the 44th over, finishing on a match-winning 73 not out and defeat for Thornbury by two wickets.
Now Thornbury travel to Keynsham on Saturday with their Premier One status hanging by a thread.
