EMMA Barnes took on her longest triathlon to date when she competed in the Cotswold Classic Middle Distance Tri at the Cotswold Water Park on  August 23.
The open water swim is 1900m in length, after which the Thornbury Running Club member mounted her bike in 58th place.
A fast ride over the 56-mile course saw her improve by several places, then continuing strongly with a time of one hour 50 minutes for the 13-mile run brought her to 36th female and 12th in her age group in a total time of five hours 08.16mins which was a great result and extremely well-paced throughout.
l Jim Godden sprinted round the last race of the Bitton 5k series last month, finishing 13th in 18.31mins and was first runner over 50.
l At the various 5k parkruns, Andrew Darton again ran the quickest, with Garry Slater showing the best age grading.
Both ran at Little Stoke finishing in 18.30mins and 18.53mins respectively.
Nicky Davies also completed the Little Stoke course in a time of 24.12mins.
Anne Palmer ran at Chipping Sodbury in 31.13mins and Paul Thomas was the parkrun tourist of the week, finishing in 20.30mins at Keswick.
l Last weekend, a few of those who who usually run switched to the arguably more-important parkrun role of volunteering.
Without timekeepers, finish-token collectors, marshals, people to mark and clear away the course and do many other jobs, parkruns just would not happen.
At Little Stoke, Kevin Arnold, Kevin Cundy and Garry Slater, all of whom were racing the following day, made the effort to turn up and help.
Only Chris Dawes, from Thornbury, was there to run, and he completed the course in 20.37mins.
Andrew Darton was this week in Leeds where he took part in the Roundhay Park event for the first time, barely taking time to enjoy the scenery in 18.46mins.
David Palmer (25.44) and Anne Palmer (30.24) ran at Chipping Sodbury parkrun on Saturday as it was to be their turn to marshal the following day when there was a good turnout from Thornbury Running Club for the second Severn Bridge half-marathon.
After a delayed start, apparently due to pressure on the portaloos, David Beard was the first home for the club in one hour 35.50mins.
Nick Langridge was less than a minute behind in one hour 36.45, second M60-plus in the race.
Rosina Rowland, first Thornbury lady did almost as well, being third F50-plus in a time of one hour 44.19 mins.
Kevin Arnold (one hour 45.39mins), and Hugh McPherson (one hour 47.56 mins) came in under the one hour 50mins mark,  with Kevin Cundy (one hour 51.02mins), Selina Slater (one hour 54.19mins), Mike Bennewitz (one hour 55.30 mins), Angela Bushell (one hour 58.46mins) and  Andrew Board (one hour 58.52mins) beat the clock to the two-hour mark, after which, due to the benefits of chip timing, both Judy Mills and Arthur Renshaw achieved identical times of two hours 01.19mins, despite not seeing each other from start to finish.
Several of those who ran the half-marathon are now in training for the Bristol to Bath Marathon on 25 October, with Thornbury Running Club's own Oldbury Power 10-miler on October 4 open to all and an ideal 'sharpener' for the longer race, Details on thornburyrunningclub.co.uk
