Bristol Churches FA Division One
Grace Church 1 Thornbury Baptists 3

THORNBURY Baptists made it back-to-back victories after a brace for skipper Jimmy Cooke and a thunderous drive from Sam Nichols secured the points.
Thornbury were quick out of the blocks and had the lead on 15 minutes when Phil Loadwick fed James Hancox who provided a pinpoint cross for Cooke to head home inside the far post.
They had their second when another cross from the right, this time from Loadwick, reached Cooke to turn on the edge of the box and fire a right-foot half volley into the roof of the net.
Grace Church grew in confidence as the half wore on and forced Dave Lane into a couple of sharp saves but Jonny Skinner and Jon Braid were standing resolute against most of the pressure and Thornbury led 2-0 at half time.
Grace Church were first to expose gaps in the Baptists’ midfield after the break with an intricate passing move coolly finished by their centre forward.
Kelly, Ponting and Phil Mansfield all had chances to add a third before a break down the right byMansfield reached Cooke in the box and this time he laid the ball off for Nichols, arriving from midfield, to rifle the ball into the top left corner.
It finished 3-1 and Thornbury will travel to Bath again to take on Widcombe Wanderers.
