FA Vase
Abbey Rangers 1 Tytherington Rocks 1
TYTHERINGTON Rocks played in The FA Vase Trophy second qualifying round for the first time in their long history and came away with with an excellent draw after travelling to Abbey Rangers of The Combined League who play at Addlestone in Surrey for the encounter.
The replay took place last night.
In last weekend’s game and in good conditions, and on an excellent pitch, Rocks started well with most of the attacking coming from them, however, in the 14th minute they lost full back Rob Cave after a bad tackle from a Rangers defender left him unable to take any further part in the game,Billy Bond coming on as substitute to take his place, and the offender receiving a yellow card.
Rocks first real chance came in the 17th minute when a ball from Luke Lecrass over the home defence found Joshua Charles who came into the box and fired over from close range, Rocks continued to create chances but none really bothered the home keeper.
Abbey Rangers took the lead in the 31st minute when from a quick break away the ball went down the left and was crossed into the penalty box where striker Brian Thorpe hit a low shot wide of keeper Chris Manns to put the home side in front, this was only the second shot on target for the home side of the match so far.
After the break Rangers put further pressure on Rocks defence, however with Courtney Charles, Luke Lecrass, Billy Bond, Ben Winter Alsop, Shomari Sengor Joe Walters and captain Jerome Ingram all working and covering well with keeper Manns behind them gave very few clear cut chances to the home side.
In the 63rd minute, Tom Brennan came close to getting the equalizer when he came in from the left and fired a shot just wide of the post.this was followed a few minutes later when a cross from the right was headed by Joshua Charles onto the bar and rebounded out.
With  normal time running out, Rocks got the equaliser that their pressure deserved when a pass from Joe Walters found Joshua Southway on the right flank whose deep accurate cross found Courtney Charles flying in to head high and wide of the home keeper in the 93rd minute to keep the tie alive and go into extra time.
This goal stung the home side and, for most of extra time, put Rocks defense under pressure, this is where keeper Chris Manns showed his skills stopping what could have been two certain goals and marshalling the defenders in front of him.
Two players stood out in the game for the Rocks. They were Courtney Charles, who was excellent in defending the Tytherington net and for scoring a superb goal with a minute of normal time  left, and, in  extra time, Chris Manns for keeping the scores level and making a replay possible back at The Hardwicke Field last night.
