POOR communication and haphazard availability reduced North Bristol seconds to a bare fifteen players at kick-off against Avonmouth and subsequently lead to a big defeat.
To add to the jumble, many of those players had to play in unfamiliar positions which, against decent opposition, seemed likely to be disastrous.
However, the valiant fifteen showed guts and determination in good measure.
Led from the front by captain Steve Chappell, North’s pack were able to compete very effectively throughout, especially at scrummage.
Avonmouth scored three decent first half tries from quick break-outs and good support-play, to lead 19-0 at the interval.
North got near to scoring several times themselves, through the pace of Rees Prosser and the power of Ben Purdy, both whom played well.
However, North’s day went from bad to worse, when their injured number eight, Sam Turner, left the field just after half-time.
He was followed ten minutes later by Joey O’Leary, who left leaking blood from several wounds.
Yet North remained undaunted and followed the example of flanker–come-scrum-half, Matt Bowden, whose all-action performance earned him man-of –the- match plaudits.
Outnumbered and eventually simply tired out, North eventually succumbed to an undeserved trouncing.
