Avon Youth League Division 5
Deerswood Blues 0
Thornbury Town U13 6

IT was a very comprehensive win for Thornbury Town Under-13s which saw them beat Deerswood with a six goal haul – and it proved satisfying for the visiting crowd too.
With Sam Sturt in goal and a back line of Ben Vizard, Kai Fowler and Joel Compton; a midfield of Ethan Jury, Leo Reeves and Gaby Cerullo, Will Hendy on the left, Jordan Tyers on the right; and the Matts of Bijester and Pegg up front, Thornbury promised much.
And they delivered on that promise with the opening minutes seeing some early pressure from the visitors and strong combative play from Leo Reeves saw a good through-ball to Pegg whose shot was saved well by Deerswood’s keeper.
It remained all square with a fantastic save from Sam Sturt one end and Leo Reeves and Matt Bijster both denied at the other.
But Deerswood were about to find out how hungry Thornbury were for victory last weekend as they were given a lesson in how to play football.
Thornbury were soon one up from a well-taken shot from Matt Bijster after Jordan Tyers crossed well from the right.
The  Matt Bijester soon made it two after a ball passed just behind him was dragged forward and drilled into the back of the net.
More good passing from the midfield found Pegg on the left and his timely struck shot found its way past the keeper’s left to make it 3-0.
Ten minutes later, against the run of play it has to be said, Ethan Jury picked up the ball in his own half, danced down the left hand touchline raced past the Deerswood midfield.
The lively Thornbury ace skinned the right back and hammered in a shot that the keeper did not get near as it found its way into the net– it was now 4-0 and Thornbury seemed well on top.
Bijster soon made it 5-0 and he earned himself his first hat-trick with another well taken goal.
Half-time followed and, after the break, Archie Walker went to play up front.
After 10 minutes of the half resuming, Walker lobbed the keeper with arguably the best goal of the match to make it 6-0.
Jury almost made it 7-0 with another mazy run and with Sturt and Pegg coming close the game seemed to be coming to an end.
The chances kept coming and, in the final minutes of the match, a blank point save from Gaby Cerullo kept the Thornbury scoresheet against them blank.
Cerullo had  volunteered to go in goal to give the keeper a chance elsewhere and showed he was good in that position as he denied the hosts one final attempt to keep the score at 6-0 to Thornbury and secure a big victory.
