Avon Youth League Division 1
Bitton AFC 1
Thornbury Town U12s 1

THORNBURY came from behind with a hard fought draw following a solid all round performance.
Unlike the past couple of weeks Thornbury started the game with purpose and energy and took the game to the home side.
The visitors battled and started to play their normal passing game and created a couple of early chances with both Iker Hurtado and Charlie Moss going close.
A fine passing move down the right saw George Baker go close after eight minutes but Bitton also enjoyed some success on the break throughout the half.
However, Thornbury’s defence of George Jefferson, Joe Pearmain, Theo Stowell and in particular James Stone were resolute and well protected by the hard working Ben King in midfield along with goalkeeper Peter Gregory who handled and kicked well.
After 27 minutes another good move involving Ash Jeanes and Moss saw the ball released to Kieran O’Brien on the right and with a fine long range effort O’Brien was unlucky not to open the scoring.
However, it was the home side who snatched the advantage after Thornbury’s defence conceded an unfortunate goal directly from a corner right on half time.
The second half was an even affair but in truth the home side probably shaded it.
They created several half chances which Thornbury defended well but midway through the half goalkeeper Gregory had to make two fine saves, tipping over a long range effort and then making a fine one handed stop from a fierce low shot.
However, Thornbury never gave up and the home side conceded a free kick on the edge of the box with barely a minute of the game to go.
Striker George Baker took the responsibility and proceeded to fire a blistering shot into the top corner, giving the home keeper no chance and earning Thornbury a well deserved point.
