TWO students from Winterbourne International Academy have helped secure silver for the City of Bristol Synchro club in the Synchronised Swimming Championships.

Year 8 student Leanne Baker, aged 12, initially competed in the ASA National Age Group Synchronised Swimming Championships for the 12-and-under category at the GL1 Aquatic Centre in Gloucester.

She did so in the individual ‘Figures’ competition where she had to demonstrate to a total of 24 judges four individual skills.

Her overall points score helped secure her place in the City of Bristol Synchro Club in the National Team event.

Baker and her seven team-mates performed an excellent version of their routine to ensure that they finished ahead of a team from City of Salford to secure silver in the Nationals.

One of Baker’s coaches, Elise Denner, 17, is a sixth former at Winterbourne International Academy and a former national team champion herself. Baker praised her friend and said that she could not have done it without Denner.
