STRIKER Darren Edwards admits Yate Town will have their work cut out to get near the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South and West play-offs, but defiantly added: “There is nobody that we fear.”

The Bluebells continued an encouraging start to 2016 with another victory on Saturday, this time a 4-2 win over AFC Totton at Lodge Road which came just two weeks after they broke a winless run by beating Larkhall Athletic.

And with their clash against Burnham being postponed a fortnight ago due to the weather it means Yate Town are unbeaten in the new year.

The target is the play-offs and, with the threat of relegation dwindling rapidly, the Bluebells can relax and just play football.

Edwards, who scored twice in that victory over Totton on Saturday, believes a run of consistency can serve the club well but reaching the play-offs is, he reckons, a tall order.

Yate take on struggling Wantage away on Saturday and, after a midweek cup clash with Bishop’s Cleeve, they face high-flying North Leigh in a clash which could define how far they have come this month and whether their hopes of a winning streak are founded on firm ground.

The former Bath City and Chippenham front man, who was man of the match against Larkhall, said: “Larkhall was getting the monkey off our back as we went about ten games without a win. That was a massive win for us and for Boxey (George Box) to get the winning goal so late on was good for us.

“On Saturday (against AFC Totton), it never seemed to be in doubt and we were a bit unlucky not to get more.”

Edwards said it was a case of not about looking too far ahead for Yate now and, once they get over the Wantage match, they can look towards the big clash with North Leigh, who, having been right at the top, have fallen to sixth but have won three out of four.

The sides drew 1-1 at North Leigh back in November so Yate will be looking to get three points at Lodge Road this time around.

Edwards said: “With all these teams, I don’t think there is much to fear from any of them. On our day, we are a match for anyone.

“We have given ourselves so much to do. We have got to take each game as it comes.”

As for netting twice on Saturday, Edwards said: “As a striker, you are always judged on the goals you get but I think a striker has to do something other than just score goals. He has to put a shift in and help others.”
