IT WAS a case of what might have been for three of Thornbury’s four squash sides this week.
The main aim of Thornbury A this season is to retain a spot in the Premier A division after last year’s promotion, however, the first game of the season didn’t go as planned against the other promoted side Lansdown A.
With Callum Davidson missing Sam Davidson and captain Brad Jenkins both won comfortably 3-0 but Craig Webb and Ewan Davies-Smith struggled both losing 3-0.
The deciding game was a cracker but Ryan Wilson lost out 3-1 meaning the winning bonus points went to Lansdown.
In Division One, Thornbury B lost out to Weston B by three matches to two.
There were wins for Dale Curtis (3-0) and Mark Toseland (3-1) but Alex Hall lost 3-0 and both Steve Morley and Rob Livingstone lost out 3-2 in tight games.
The final points score to Weston was 14-10.
Thornbury C completed the trio of three matches to two losses for the week as they went down 15-9 to David Lloyd Long Ashton.
There was an excellent 3-1 win for Ian Talbot and another good victory for Ian Johnson however in the deciding match Colin Preece lost 3-2 after being two sets up.
Thornbury D got their season off to a winning start by beating Vivo 7 by the scoreline of four matches to one.
There were wins for Viv Gard on his debut for the club, Mick Dixon, Graham Dono and James Jenkins – James winning 3-2 and 10-9 in the fifth set.
With a stronger squad than last season it is hoped that the D team make it into the top two and win promotion.
