THORNBURY A just missed out on their first league win of the season, losing out again by three matches to two.

A routine 3-0 victory from Brad Jenkins and a strong winning performance by Ryan Wilson put the home side in a good position but heavy defeats for Callum Davidson and Craig Webb left the tie in the balance.

Sam Davidson took a 2-1 lead against ex-pro Chris Clare but did not quite have enough to get over the line eventually losing out 3-2.

Although the result leaves Thornbury at the bottom of the league after two matches, there is no need to panic as the league is quite compact and there have been some promising performances.

Thornbury B had little trouble sweeping aside David Lloyd Long Ashton by four matches to one.

Ewan Davies-Smith won comfortably 3-0, Rob Livingstone won 3-1 and Steve Morley dug deep to win 3-2 and 10-8 in the fifth set. The stand-out performance of the night though was from Justin Edwards who won 3-0 and dropped only three points in the entire match, taking the win 9-2, 9-1, 9-0.

Thornbury C picked up their first win of the season by outplaying Bath University third team. Thornbury won all matches on the night with 3-1 wins for Mark Toseland, Dale Curtis and Nigel Tovey. Pete Bowen won 3-2 and Ian Talbot continued his good run of form dispatching his opponent 3-0.

Thornbury D made it two wins from two as they overcame Keynsham A winning five matches to nil.

Colin Preece and Bill Ellis had comfortable 3-0 wins while Viv Gard and Mick Dixon both won 3-1. The best game of the night was a 3-2 win by Ian Johnson, having been trailing 2-1 Johnson turned it around to come back and win 10-8 in the final set. The result sees the D team open up a 12-point gap at the top of the table.
