Badminton 1 Thornbury 6

THORNBURY, boosted by the return of captain Jen Arnold, started confidently against Badminton with a number of well executed moves instigated by the experienced duo Mandy McGarry and Tracey Jones.

It was not long before Thornbury took the lead with Nicola Bruce finding the net following a Rosie Liddington pass.

The home side came more into the game with Captain Jenni Munro and Gemma Collins to the fore and equalised through Abbie Woodington.

Thornbury, with coach Max Longden watching from the side, responded superbly in the second half and were virtually unstoppable with further goals coming from Lucy Woodruff and Laura Hayward, both with two, and Poppy Woolnough.

Elaine Arnold, Tess Wheatley and Sarah Newman were solid in defence whilst Liz Jenkins pulled off a couple of excellent saves .

Alex Arnold contributed her usual all over the field contribution and the young Thornbury players showed how important they are to the team with their effectiveness throughout. Thornbury visit Westberries on Saturday for their next match.

Thornbury 2nds 4 Clifton 5ths 2

Thornbury welcomed back captain Sarah Brealey and she was treated to a fine all round display from her side.

The experience of Angela Greenslade, Amy Morse and Lauren Upham complemented the contributions of the ever improving youngsters.

Molly Smith, Megan Allen and Megan McLachlan were effective in mid field and initiated a number of pleasing passing movements whilst Claire Brealey and Emma Matthews along with Larly Staton in goal stopped many visiting attacks.

Thornbury were 2-1 ahead at the interval following goals from Lauren Upham and Molly Smith The visitors equalised in the second half when , following a short corner, a visitors shot was deflected into goal by Amy Morse passed a hapless Larly Staton.

Thornbury grabbed the points when Lauren Upham scored her second and Claire Brealey her first. Thornbury had a near miss to add to their score when Amy Morse narrowly missed scoring at the correct end late in the game.

Thornbury visit North Wilts 2nds on Saturday loking to build on a pleasing team performance.

* Thornbury U-12 had a pleasing day at Avon U 12 tournament on Sunday at Gordano School , Manager and coach Sara Newman was particularly pleased with the teams efforts in wet ,miserable conditions Thornbury beat Weston Super Mare 1-0, Clifton 3-1, drew with Chippenham 1-1 and lost to Team Bath. 1-0. In their last league game of the season.

Thornbury U-14 suffered a narrow 2-0 loss against Clifton, Yasmin Blandford contributed a real captains performance and vice-captain Anna Prince who volunteered to play goal keeper made a number of fine saves.

The team had previously beaten Clevedon 1-0 with Saffy Bennett the scorer in an earlier encounter.
