Avon Youth League Division 4

Thornbury Town U14 3 Rockleaze Rangers Colts U14 4

A close fought league tie which could have gone either way but it was the visitors who took the points.

For the second week running Thornbury scored in the first minute of the game; A perfectly placed Rhys Trohear corner was confidently headed into the net by Dan Cousins to give Town an early lead.

The early advantage was short lived though, a curling Rockleaze shot from the edge of the box levelled the score and Rangers quickly followed this with a second.

Thornbury seemed to lose momentum, although Chris Webbe, Sam Flawn and Josh Williams all came close. A Rockleaze penalty was saved by Town keeper Alex Randall but was knocked in on the rebound to increase Ranger’s lead to 3-1. A fourth goal followed. Town looked out of the game and were further disappointed when Sam Flawn’s brilliantly taken freekick was disallowed. Man of the Match,Flawn, was not to be deterred however and maintained his composure to fire the re-take into the opposite corner to reduce the deficit to 4-2.

Thornbury started the second half well, another good Rhys Trohear corner led to a Rockleaze own goal although Thornbury’s Jacob Roome deserves some credit for putting on the pressure in the box.

With the score at 4-3, Thornbury knew that victory was within reach and stepped up the pace. A long looping shot by Town’s Jamie Morris looked to be the equaliser but was ruled not to have crossed the line. Rockleaze fought back but Thornbury captain Rhys Trohear made sure he was first to the ball and Benjy Burgess was able to outpace the Rangers’ attack.

Michael Winnett and Jamie Morris combined well on the right side as Thornbury made a last ditch attempt to equalise and a long shot by Aaron Barnes was just over. Unfortunately for the home team the score line remained unchanged and Rockleaze took the points.
