Gloucestershire County League Division Two Thornbury seconds 86 ao lost to Frocester thirds 90-2 by eight wickets

THORNBURY seconds entertained Frocester thirds but, unfortunately, the entertainment stopped there as far as the home team were concerned.

On a bright day and another good wicket, Marcus Wormwell won the toss and elected to bat with the intention of putting runs on the board.

There was intention but no application or execution.

In an astonishing display of inept batting, Thornbury were bowled out for just 86 with only Wormwell (21) showing any resistence.

The Frocester bowlers all produced sound spells of line and length bowling but with very little movement from the pitch still managed to find the edge or go straight through the batsmen’s defences at will.

After the break, taken at just 3pm, any hope rested on lots of early wickets but this never materialised.

Luke Franklin (7-2-26-1) bowled with plenty of grit and determination and beat the bat more often than not.

However the other Thornbury bowlers couldn’t match Franklin’s example and runs were conceded all too often as Frocester cruised to their total.

Alex Allen bowled spin at the death to register Thornbury’s solitary point of the match, Frocester ending the pain at 90-2.
