West of England Premier League Prem 2 Glos/Wilts

Thornbury 328-9 beat Rockhampton 175 ao by 153 runs

THORNBURY grabbed a fourth successive win of the West of England Premier League Prem 2 Glos/Wilts season by gaining revenge over their nearest neighbours Rockhampton on Saturday.

The Rams had won the first encounter between the sides in May.

But this time, Thornbury triumphed.

The day got off to the perfect start for Thornbury, with captain Richard Trotman winning the toss and electing to bat first.

Openers Dan Davis and Nick Willis-Stovold looked to form a partnership that would see their side on their way to posting a score in the region of three hundred.

Davis played the more attacking strokes in the partnership, whist Willis-Stovold adopted a more careful approach.

Davis showed off his full array of attacking shots and was keen to get to three-figures after falling just short last week.

He took on all the bowlers and cleared the boundary rope with ease, smashing seven sixes in total.

A straight six saw him go past one hundred, his first in league cricket for Thornbury.

The pair amassed a big opening partnership of 171, before Willis-Stovold departed caught and bowled to Hancox, for 49.

Useful cameos from Luke Davis 29 and Richard Trotman 34 helped push Thornbury past 280, not long after Davis finally went after being run-out for a magnificent 148.

A few ‘starts’ from the low-middle order and the tail saw the home side end on 328-9.

Rockhampton got off to a positive start, with Matt Tyler and Jamie Wakefield keen to keep up with the already high run rate of over a run-a-ball.

However, their partnership was only worth 17 as Luke Davis found the edge of Tyler for six runs.

And 43 runs later, Wakefield fell the same way, for an enterprising 41.

Rob Belbin came in at three and managed 23 before he was caught by Luke Davis off the bowling of Jack Gillett, restricting Rockhampton to 83-3.

The Rams were in desperate need of a big partnership but it never arrived.

Wickets were taken at regular intervals meaning their innings could never really gather any momentum.

The last four wickets fell for just three runs as Rockhampton were bowled out for 175, succumbing to a 153-run defeat.

Luke Davis bowled particularly well, ending on figures of 10-3-23-2 which meant him continuing his good form this season.
