WITH a choice of mid-week races a few Thornbury runners travelled to Bristol for a somewhat wet Blaise Blazer on 1 August; a run of about four miles around the Blaise estate.

Jim Godden raced away from his club-mates to finish 16th in 26.30minutes, 3rd MV50. Emma Barnes was the sole lady for Thornbury and finshed 6th in the Senior female category in 32.09minutes.

Romeo Maddalena followed in 32.50minutes, then came the MV60 trio of Mike Bennewitz (33.50minutes) and, finishing together, Pete Mainstone and Jeremy Clothier, both 35.57minutes.

Two evenings later some of the cyclists were in action at the Chilly Summer Series duathlon held at Castle Combe Race circuit.

Runner Ros Rowland and cyclist Ray Sunnucks again teamed up, each doing what they do best and finishing 2nd in the Relay event in a total time of 57.22minutes.

Arthur Renshaw (one hour 55.06minutes) and Graham Bishop (one hour 21.27minutes) were 3rd & 4th respectively in the Msupervet60 category.

Liam Jones was the sole Club representative at the Westonbirt 10k on Friday 5 August, finishing in a respectable 48.44minutes.

Which just left the Saturday parkrunners. Graham Bishop was the only person to turn out in Club colours twice in the week, finishing the 5k at Chipping Sodbury in 35.42minutes, with wife Carole just behind in 35.45minutes. David Palmer (27.30minutes) and Anne Palmer (33.11minutes) had another run at the Fell Foot venue at Newby Bridge in Cumbria, and at Lancaster Andrew Darton helped son Thomas to a new personal best for the distance by a whole 3 minutes, both completing in 23.11minutes.

Thornbury Running Club meets at 7pm on Thursdays at the Leisure Centre, and new members are always welcome.
