FOR A local Sunday morning race, all runners from Thornbury and the surrounding areas – and farther afield – will be welcome at Oldbury Power Station on 11 September.

Following on from the successful Thornbury 10k, Thornbury Running Club is ready to provide a great event over the longer 10 mile distance. Again, chip timing will give competitors an accurate finish time, and with the usual flat, fast course, personal bests are achievable.

For those not used to the distance, a 10 mile race is good preparation for a future half marathon. Indeed, being just 2 weeks ahead of the Bristol Half Marathon, it is an ideal test for those who are preparing for the longer event, however experienced they may be over the distance.

As well as individual and age-group prizes, there is a team competition for teams of 4 men or 3 women from affiliated running clubs, with slightly reduced entry fees. If the limit is not reached, entries will be available on the day of the race at a £2 surcharge.

The race also incorporates the Avon Road Race Championships for the distance; eligible runners being those born in the County of Avon as it existed between 1974 or 1996 (or whose Mother was living there at the time of your birth, even though they were actually born out of the county) or those who have lived permanently in the area for 9 months, or as a member of the Armed Forces have been permanently stationed in the area for that amount of time.

The race starts at 10.30am; there is ample parking at Oldbury Power Station, where the race starts and finishes, and the figure-of-eight route follows quiet country lanes.
