THORNBURY will be looking to make it seven successive wins after last week’s washout when they travel to Chippenham in the West of England Premier League Prem Two Glos/Wilts division.

And, from a position where they were doomed to relegation earlier this summer, another victory could take them above Goatacre and, remarkably, into the top four of the division.

Indeed, Thornbury have to go back to June 18 for the last time they lost which was, ironically, against Goatacre at The Ship Field.

Since then, they have been on a real roll with victories over Burbage and Easton Royal and a sensational batting display against runaway leaders Lechlade that say Kyp Bridgen and Josh Slade, both with half centuries, and incredible bowling by skipper Richard Trotman, who took four wickets, and Slade and Dan Davis, both with three, to record an eight wicket victory.

Thornbury’s last attempt at playing Chippenham, at the Ship Field in June, was abandoned after the home side hit a cracking 357-8 from their fifty overs before the rain stopped play for good.

However, Chippenham’s last match prior to last weekend’s abandoned game at Warminster, was a 47-run victory over high-flying Cheltenham so a win for the Thorns on Saturday to make it a magnificent seven victories in succession would be a great achievement.

Chipping Sodbury are also on a healthy run of success in the West of England Premier League Gloucestershire division with three wins out of four prior to last weekend’s cancellation away at Tewkesbury.

But it will take a great effort from them to get another win under their belts on Saturday when they play leaders Hatherley and Reddings at The Ridings.

Sodbury beat basement side Lydney in their last game played a fortnight ago with a top bowling display from Phil Lill and Nick Wake, with three wickets each, helping to demolish Lydney for 129 all out.

Hatherley and Reddings will, though, be a different prospect for skipper Jamie Rendell’s side but, if they win and results go their way, Sodbury could climb into the top four above Tewkesbury and, with only a handful of points separating them from second-placed Frocester, they would have a great target to aim for in the last weeks of this year’s competition.

Frampton Cotterell, meanwhile, have everything to play for in the Bristol and District League first division over the final fortnight.

Frampton Cotterell are just five points above Old Bristolians Westbury, who are in the second relegation place above basement team Old Down.

So victory over Lansdown seconds, who themselves are 13 points ahead of Frampton, would be just the ticket.

However, form is against the home side as Frampton have lost all four of their last five matches played while Lansdown are the polar opposite and have won all four out of five.
