UHL Challenge Cup

Moreton Rangers 3 Tytherington Rocks 1

TYTHERINGTON Rocks came away from Moreton Rangers with a disappointing result in the UHL Challenge Cup but one that they threw away in the last 25 minutes of the game with several players showing a lack of fitness.

The first-half was mainly dominated by the Rocks and, after having a goal disallowed, Luke Whittam put them ahead in the 40th minute collecting a cross from the right by Daryl Hubert-Smith on the left of the penalty to stroke his shot low and hard past home keeper Jake Meredith.

The Rocks stayed in front at half-time and looked on course to win the match and progress in the competition.

And they could have given Moreton Rangers a real headache for the remainder of the match when, within ten minutes of the start of the second-half, Tytherington Rocks had a great chance to go two up when Hubert-Smith was put through one on one with the home keeper.

He could have scored but only managered to shoot straight at the home goalkeeper who saved the shot easily enough.

The game started to turn when Moreton started to test the Rocks defence.

They finally succeeded in levelling the match when, in the 65th minute, they equalised as Lee Brooks scored with a well-taken goal.

Rocks were level but it did not take long for the home side to go into the lead.

The first goal was quickly followed by a successful strike from Jack Robson in the 70th minute and Lee Brooks completed the scoring with five minutes of the game remaining to send Tytherington home and out of the Challenge Cup for another year.

It is back to Hellenic League Division One West matters on Saturday week when Tytherington look to improve their league position with a big basement clash against rock bottom Letcombe which kicks off at 3pm.
