FA Cup first qualifying round replay

Slimbridge 1 Fleet Town 0

SLIMBRIDGE advanced to the second qualifying round of the FA Cup with a hard fought extra time victory over Fleet Town.

After a goalless ninety minutes, the deciding goal came nine minutes into the first period of extra time from Rich Thwaite, and the Swans held on to book a tie a tie at Taunton Town a week on Saturday.

The game was a very tight, cagey affair, with few decent chances for either side - early on, Thwaite’s header proved too high for the home side, while Jordan Chandler’s effort brought a good save from Slimbridge Keeper Adrain Kowalski in the first few minutes.

Dalilo Cadete looked dangerous for the visitors, having a couple of decent effort with 20 minutes gone, and the Swans’ best chance of the first half came when Johnny Cant brought a superb stop from Fleet Keeper Ryan Pryce just before the half.

The second half was more of the same - probably the best chance of the second period came with four minutes remaining, when Ben White should have done better with a header which could have nicked it for Fleet, but the game went into Extra Time.

Slimbridge started the first period well, and Sean Lawson brought a great save from Pryce four minutes in, before the deadlock was finally broken. Marley Thomas’s corner found the head of Rich Thwaite, who powered his header in to put the hosts ahead.

Slimbridge had a great chance to put the game to bed with 9 minutes remaining, but Thomas managed to slide the ball wide when through on goal.

However, in the end, the hosts held firm to book their place in the next round.
