Bristol Churches League Division One
Thornbury Baptist Church 3 Edge Church 8
DISMAL defending cost the Thornbury Baptists dear as they were humiliated by an average Edge side. The home side conceded on four minutes when a corner squirmed past young goalkeeper Davis Newcombe. The Baptists equalised on ten minutes when Lloyd Morris, on debut, fed John Cordle who slammed home from close range.
A sloppy throw in let in Matt Paramore to give Edge the lead, and Will Jones conceded a penalty which was slotted home on 32 mins. The visitors made it 4-1 from a corner but the Baps pulled two goals back just before half time.
A James Hancox cross was slotted home by Cordle, and he completed his hat-trick when Ash Tuck was fouled in the area and he smashed home the penalty. The second-half couldn’t have been worse when another soft goal was conceded.
Second half substitute David Ishi helped himself to a hat-trick as the home side looked vulnerable at every corner and every time the visitors approached the penalty box.
Will Jones had a chance to pull a goal back at a corner but couldn’t connect, Sam Nichols hit the bar with a header, and James Ponting had a chance to score his first ever goal but the visitors managed to clear. On Saturday, The Baps take on Widcombe Wanderers at Bath University.
