WHILE many Thornbury Running Club members were testing their speed and fitness over the half marathon distance on 24 September, Nick Langridge was at Cirencester Park to run just under half that distance in the10k race.

Still the all-time Club record-holder for the 10-mile and marathon distance, he showed that he is still a worthy competitor, finishing 47th of 282 finishers in 43.14minutes and easily winning the VM60 age category beating the other 15 runners in his group.

Suzy Cundy has had to wait an extra seven days for her turn to tackle her first half-marathon at Cardiff, her training partners having completed theirs at Cheltenham last week. Keeping a good, even pace throughout she crossed the line in two hours 32.23minutes.

A few, mostly parkrun regulars, took-on a 5k run on Saturday. Tom Usherwood took son Richard to a new best time of 28.52minutes at Stonehouse; Matt Johnstone ran 20.41minutes at Pomphrey Hill and Andrew Darton was first Club member home at Chipping Sodbury though his time of 18.10minutes was below his best.

It was his turn however to notch-up 50 parkruns and earn the 50-run tee-shirt. Garry Slater in 19.30minutes is approaching his best for the course, and David Palmer (27.40minutes) and Anne Palmer (31.58minutes) were both quickest in their age groups.

Thornbury Running Club meets at 7pm on Thursdays at the Leisure Centre and new members are also welcome. More details can be found at thornburyrunningclub.co.uk or on the Club Facebook page.
