Hellenic League Division One West

Tytherington Rocks 1 Easington Sports 1

WITH a well deserved point against high flying Easington Sports on Saturday, Rocks moved off the bottom of the league for the first time this season.

The team were without five regular players due to work commitments, injury and one suspension meant that manager Daniel Gillespie made his debut for the club.

Easington got off to a great start when after just two minutes they were awarded a penalty when one of their players was brought down inside the box by a late tackle and forward Andrew Stidder scored low to the left of Rocks keeper Adam Clark putting Sports one up.

Weather conditions were by now awful with heavy sweeping rain non stop and causing players to make mistakes, and it was from a mistake by Sports captain and keeper Jack Goode that Rocks leveled the score after ten minutes when Jamel Fisher received the ball midway in the opposition half and taking the ball was met by the on rushing keeper who half stopped Jamel`s shot on the edge of the box only for the ball to be deflected across the six yard box where Rocks Callum Francis was unmarked and allowed to stroll the ball into an empty net.

For the remainder of the first half Rocks had the better of the play and created a couple of decent chances but were denied by Goode.

The second half continued in the same way, continuing bad weather not allowing either side to play the ball on the ground and many passes going astray, however Sports looked more like getting a goal late in the game when the upright and cross bar saved the home side from going behind, late in the game Sports had a player sent off for punching a home player who had lined up in a wall ready to face a free kick which had been awarded to the away side leaving the referee no option but to issue a straight red.

At the end a draw was a fair result after all the efforts both teams put into the game despite the awful weather conditions.

Rocks next home game is on Saturday 19th November versus Abingdon United at The Hardwicke Field KO 3.00pm.
