Hellenic League Division One West

Tytherington Rocks 1 Abingdon United 5

TYTHERINGTON Rocks found Abingdon United in top form and from the start were outplayed for the majority of the game.

It took United only five minutes to take the lead when a through ball found Graham Edney who scored from just inside the six yard box after Rocks keeper Adam Clark had made a good save only for the ball to come out to Edney who shot low to the keepers right to score.

United continued to find space and Rocks defense was again overstretched when Siyanda Gila beat two players on the right and came inside to score the second in the 18th minute to put the away side well in control at two nil.

In the thirty first minute United went further in front when Corey Forbes was brought down in the penalty box and the spot kick was taken by captain Edney to complete his double and United went in at half time leading by three goals to nil.

Rocks went further behind straight after the second half started when from a free kick in the 46th minute well saved by home keeper Clark was palmed out to Corey Forbes who scored from close in to make it four for United, Rocks held out until the 57th minute when Edney found space and scored to complete an excellent hat trick and United`s final goal.

Manager Dan Gillespie brought on subs Jake Davies and Jack Edge and the pattern of play changed with Rocks getting more of the ball and creating their first real chances of the game, in the 70th minutes Rocks got a consolation goal back when from a free kick about twenty five yards out on the left Luke Whittam floated the ball into the six yard box where Jake Davies running in scored with a well directed header, too late in the game to make any real difference.

United thoroughly deserved to win and they are the best team that Rocks have faced all season and if they continue this form must have a good chance of taking a top two place in the league.

Rocks are away on Saturday at Letcombe KO 2.15pm.
