THORNBURY Lawn Tennis Club have held their annual awards Evening at Eastwood Park which was attended by seventy members of the club and remembered an excellent 2016 season.

The evening included a meal, serious and fun awards and a disco where the young and the young at heart danced the night away.

Chairman Brian Jordan highlighted some of the major achievements in 2016.

Jordan said: “The performance of the club juniors has been exceptional with many competing in open tournaments across the South West.”

Brooke Daunton and Luke Johnson, both aged 12, won the Mixed Doubles club tournament, beating all the adult entrants.

Luke also reached the men’s singles final.

Major improvements to the facilities include the completion of the clubhouse refurbishment and the refurbishment of the public tennis courts in partnership with Thornbury Town Council.

These improvements provide Thornbury with some of the best tennis facilities in the area and an infrastructure to support new members. Jordan added: “The focus for the next few months will be to encourage more people of all ages and abilities to make use of the facilities.”

Each year the club gives an award for Junior and Adult Ambassadors. The junior award was presented to Brooke Daunton for the inspiration and help she has provided to other juniors. The adult award is a result of a ballot of members and was awarded to Linda Mantle. She has worked tirelessly for the Club and has been an inspiration to others.
