Thornbury Town U18s 13 Frampton-on-Severn 1

IT was a lucky 13 start to 2017 for Thornbury Town u18’s as they hammer local rivals Frampton on Severn 13-1 to kick off the new year in style.

Thornbury travelled to Frampton on Severn for their first game the new year and the match started with the visitors showing signs that they had not played a game in over month as they struggled to find any rhythm and were misplacing a lot of passes.

The host were playing a very physical game and their tactics were to play a quick long ball over the top for they players to chase.

It was Thornbury who took the lead when Jake Budd was played in through on goal and beat the on rushing keeper to lift the ball over the top of him and into the empty net.

Frampton levelled straight from the restart when Thornbury failed to deal with a long through ball which found Kieron Birch who slotted home confidently.

The game was now being played with a very physical edge which turned the game into a start stop affair due to a number of free kicks being awarded. Frampton keeper made several fine save however Thornbury regained the lead when Jake Budd grabbed his second of the game on 30 minute mark and he went on to complete a first half hat trick a few minutes later to make it 3-1 at half time to the visitors.

HT 1-3 The second half started much better for Thornbury who introduced 2 halftime substitutions.

They soon extended their when centre midfielder Tom Cornock scored after some good build up play. Frampton were now deflated and the floodgates soon opened as Denym Di Mauro grabbed his first of two goals the second coming after Thornbury were awarded a penalty and Tom Cornock also grabbed his second after a good run into the box to make it 7-1.

Thornbury then made a change up front with Matt Salter coming on for hat trick man Jake Budd.

Dan O’connor then grabbed his first goal of two goals after being foiled in the first half by some good saves by the home keeper Shaun Chapman who was now having a busy afternoon. Matt Salter then scored 2 goals as the home team were now completely at disarray.

Centre back Sam Downes then got on the score sheet to make it 12-1 after burst forward and his cross from the right floated into the net over the keeper and Felix Brittan grabbed the last goal with a strong run and shot that give the keeper no chance.
