THORNBURY A were on good form as they beat Woodchester B 8-2 away in the Stroud and District Table Tennis League last week.

The strong Thornbury A team saw Anthony Kent and Dave Reeves both return maximums.

Reeves, Anthony Kent and Bhargav Uday Chandra, of Thornbury A, are currently three of the five men who have got one hundred per cent averages in this year’s league, with Reeves having won all 24 of the matches he has played.

Yate edged a close match with the visiting Frampton A but it was the visitors Abu Salehbhai who ended as man of the match scoring a max but couldn’t prevent a 6-4 home win.

The points were shared at five apiece when Woodchester A entertained Phoenix B, Liwu Wei scored a maximum for the visitors.

And in division two, a hat-trick for Gavin Rogers helped his Thornbury B team beat the visiting Nailsworth A 7-3. Whiteshill B lost 4-6 at home to Frampton C for whom David Metcalfe scored the decisive points with a maximum.

Forest Green B recorded a comfortable 7-3 victory over the visiting Randwick B, but it was the visitors Tirian Jakes who was the stand out player scoring a maximum for the Randwick team.

Phoenix C suffered a 3-7 home defeat when they entertained the table topping Randwick A, Declan Fardon top scored for the visitors with a maximum.

The division three action was a week which seemed to favour the away sides, Phoenix E got their campaign underway after the Christmas break with a home match against Randwick D.

Jim Hurford won his three singles to give Randwick the edge winning the match 6-4.

The next night Phoenix D lost by the same score when they entertained Thornbury C but there was a fine hat trick performance from Bruce Ind for the home side.

Cam B were whitewashed by the visiting Phoenix F with Sam McIvor, Jon Ramsbotham and Alex Wei all going unbeaten to take them clear at the top of the division.

Randwick C found the visiting Woodchester D too strong for them as they lost 2-8, Colin Bruton was on fine form scoring a max for the visitors.

It was a close match between these two sides who will be competing for the top positions, but Woodchester C came away with a 6-4 victory, thanks in part to a maximum from Barry Morgan.

And, in division four, a Chris Hampton hat- trick inspired his Phoenix H side to a 6-4 victory over their high flying visitors from Forest Green C.

Nailsworth C entertained Randwick E with the visitors edging the match 6-4 thanks to a max from Theo Laffort. Forest Green D struggled at home to a visiting Cam C team losing the match 2-8 with George Thomas scoring a maximum for the visitors.

The leagues newest side, Thornbury D, were punished at home by Nailsworth B for whom Alun Davies was man of the match as he and his team-mates, Richard Lilwall and Mark Davies ran out 10-0 winners.

Fadi Dahdouh scored a maximum for Phoenix G as his side beat their Frampton D hosts 6-4.

In a rearranged fixture, Phoenix G lost 3-7 at home to Randwick E for whom Theo Laffort scored his second maximum of the week.
