REAL Thornbury continued their rich run of form by blowing away Oldland Abbotonians Reserves at Oaklands, GFA Headquarters, Almondsbury.

The team raced into a three goal lead, following some flowing football and clinical finishing from Ross Griffin, Josh Crawford and Andy Wormald.

With summer recruit Steve Thompson and the fleet-footed Andy Rice pulling the strings in the middle of the park Real dominated the ball.

It wasn’t long before Wormald had chipped the Oldland keeper from 35-yards, and Michael Barton notch a well-deserved goal.

Playing on Oaklands 4G surface helped the team to continue playing the slick football which has fast become a trademark since Irishman Paul O’Connor took over in the summer.

Further goals from Mark Willis, Barton and Griffin, following a marauding run and cross down the right from captain Jon Miller, meant Real entered into the changing rooms 8-0 up.

O’Connor and his assistant, the injured first team stalwart Dan Lever, rung the changes at half time introducing 18-year old Zac Vaughan and youngsters Brad Jenkins and Josh Rawnsey.

The team continued where they left off with Vaughan catching the eye with some nice touches and tough tackling.

With Tom Perry and Glen Bickle staying strong at the back and goalkeeper Rowan Cartlidge in a bullish mood, the cleansheet was never in doubt.

Further goals were scored by Jenkins (4), Griffin (2), Barton and a stunning Wormald free-kick.

The team roll on to next week’s big match away at Chipping Sodbury Reserves where they’ll be looking to keep up their belated promotion push.

In GFA Cup draw news the Reserve team have been drawn against Sport Greyhound Res of the Downs League in their GFA Minor Cup Semi-Final.

Any interested players are always welcome to come and join club training at Oaklands, Almondsbury on Tuesday 6pm.
