THORNBURY Town had hard luck on Saturday as their lead at the top of the Gloucestershire County League table was cut to one point when their away fixture at Henbury was called off due to a frozen pitch.

Second placed Stonehouse Town took full advantage by closing the gap following a 2-1 home win against Rockleaze Rangers.

Thornbury Town will be hoping that the weather improves so that this Saturday’s home fixture against in-form Kingswood, who won again last Saturday goes ahead, 2pm kick off at the Mundy Fields.

However Thornbury’s Reserves were in action against visitors Tetbury Town Reserves and a strong first half performance saw them enjoy a comfortable 3-1 win to move up into fourth place.

Shane Walker was first on the score sheet in the 15th minute firing home from the edge of the area giving the Tetbury keeper no chance.

Thorns doubled their lead 10 minutes later when the visitors keeper pulled off a good save from Will Howard, but from the resultant corner Rich Curtis headed home.

The third goal came in the 33rd minute when a sweeping pass from Curtis found Sam Jones wide on the right and his cross into the box was steered home by Will Howard.

Tetbury came more into the game in the second half but the Thorns defence was rarely troubled although the visitors did pull a goal back with 20 minutes remaining.

Thorns Reserves face a difficult game this coming Saturday when they travel to face unbeaten league leaders Minchinhampton.

In the other Gloucestershire County League game that went ahead, Southmead CS Athletic lost 4-2 at home to AEK Boco which means that Southmead are still searching for their first win the league season.

Southmead have now lost 18 out of 21 matches.
