WHEN St Mary’s Old Boys captain Liam O’Keeffe was badly injured in December 2015 the local rugby community had a wake-up call.
Serious injuries are thankfully very rare, but in recognition of such accidents the RFU set up the Injured Players Foundation several years ago.
Jenny Baines, who is closely associated with Thornbury RFC, is running the 2017 London Marathon on April 23 for the RFU Injured Players Foundation.
Jenny is running with Fran Golton from St Mary’s Old Boys RFC. The ladies were at Twickenham recently for pre-marathon training.
The charity is close to the heart of all rugby players, and it is hoped a significant sum can be raised locally. Jenny has set up a Just Giving page is at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Jenny-Baines-runsforIPF
