THE COUNTY Championships for Severnside Tritons got off to a flying start at Hengrove on the first weekend of racing, with four swimmers being placed in the top eight overall positions.

They were in the girls 800 metres freestyle, including individual age group gold medals for Delphi Evans and Rachel Shutt and silvers for Isobel Roberts and Jess Part.

Success continued into the second weekend with Gold for Zac Cooper in the 100m backstroke in a county record time for the ten-year-old age group, he also picked up two bronze medals in other events.

For the girls, Rachel Shutt won gold in the 200m freestyle, also picking up a silver in the 200m free, whilst Charlotte Frost won gold in the 50m breaststroke.

Other medallists over the weekend were Ethan Courts (two silvers and three bronze), Jess Part (two silvers and two bronze), Jake Garett (silver), Emily Docherty (silver), Matty Fosbrook (bronze) and Caitlin Lynham (bronze).

It was a great effort for the whole team with all swimmers gaining personal best times.

At the halfway point of the Championships, the girls team are in second position and the boys in sixth, meaning that Severnside Tritons are placed fifth overall.

At the recent club presentation evening, held at Cattle Country in Berkeley, achievement awards were given to top male swimmer, Matt Liddle, and top female, Delphi Evans, with this year’s endeavour award being presented to Alice Hayward.

The Chairman’s Award was jointly awarded to outgoing club captains Georgie Hardwicke and Ed Walsh for outstanding contribution to the club. Both swimmers have attained numerous achievements over a number of years, including representing the club at national level.

New club captains were also announced at the event, namely Matt Liddle and Victoria Price.
